BEAA’s Support to Control AIS (2026 Update)

Partner with Rice Creek Watershed District identify and control various non-native plant species such as curly leaf pondweed (CLP) and Eurasian water milfoil (EWM). Lake treatments typically applied in May for CLP and July for EWM.
One of 15 Minnesota lakes that partners with the UofMN to monitor the impact of Zebra mussels in Minnesota.
Partner with Washington County by funding boat inspections at the boat launch to reduce the risk of new AIS being introduced into Bald Eagle.

Blue Water Science and RCWD did an assessment on June 8. CLP was found in a number of areas. Generally it has formed band of growth on the south end of the lake from about 8 to 11 feet deep along the shoreline The lake drops off after that. The CLP growth is both within and then outside the 150 foot nearshore buffer distance. Homeowners can get a permit to treat within 150 ft of their shoreline. RCWD does not treat within 150 ft of shore. Blue Water Science also surveyed EWM and found a few areas with light growth.

Weed Treatment Update

As previously communicated, we applied for and received a DNR permit to treat Eurasian Watermilfoil. A treatment was made on Tuesday July 2, 2025 by Lake Restoration. The map of the treatment areas is below.

The objective was to reduce the Eurasian Watermilfoil infestation in our lake.

As a result of the treatment, the plants will start to drop in water column in about three weeks. Full results will require over a month.

Restrictions are for the treated sites only and are posted on buoys in the sites.

There are no swimming or fishing restrictions.
